Electroless Nickel Deposition for Front Side Metallization of Silicon Solar Cells

چکیده
In this work, nickel thin films were deposited on texture silicon by electroless plated deposition. The electroless-deposited Ni layers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and sheet resistance measurement. The results indicate that the dominant phase was Ni₂Si and NiSi in samples annealed at 300-800 °C. Sheet resistance values were found to correlate well with the surface morphology obtained by SEM and the results of XRD diffraction. The Cu/Ni contact system was used to fabricate solar cells by using two different activating baths. The open circuit voltage (Voc) of the Cu/Ni samples, before and after annealing, was measured under air mass (AM) 1.5 conditions to determine solar cell properties. The results show that open circuit voltage of a solar cell can be enhanced when the activation solution incorporated hydrofluoric acid (HF). This is mainly attributed to the native silicon oxide layer that can be decreased and/or removed by HF with the corresponding reduction of series resistance.

Formation of a Low Ohmic Contact Nickel Silicide Layer on Textured Silicon Wafers Using Electroless Nickel Plating
This paper presents a low cost process for fabrication of high efficiency silicon-based solar cells from front side ARC patterning through contact line metallization. This process utilizes a screen printable etch resist to define the contact pattern and a wet etching solution to remove the exposed ARC layer. The metallization stack for the contact line pattern consists of a nickel silicide ohmi...

In the last years efforts were made to overcome the widespread screen printing metallization technique to reduce shading of the front side, increase the finger conductivity, and improve the contact properties of the metallization of crystalline silicon solar cells. A promising approach is plating via wet chemical metal deposition. Hereby, the metals nickel as contact layer and copper or silver ...

Developing a better method for the metallization of silicon solar cells is integral part of realizing superior efficiency. Currently, contact realization using screen printing is the leading technology in the silicon based photovoltaic industry, as it is simple and fast. However, the problem with metallization of this kind is that it has a lower aspect ratio and higher contact resistance, which...

The main target for a commercially successful solar cell production is to decrease the cost/Watt-peak ratio. In the last years new techniques like fine line screen printing or plating of the front electrode entered the market. These new techniques enable a reduction of Ag or Ag containing paste of the front grid or even a substitution of this metal. Cu is a suited candidate because of its high ...

For wafer based silicon solar cells, the combination of amorphous/crystalline silicon (a-Si:H/c-Si) heterojunction emitters (SHJ) [1] and back-contacted back-junction solar cell concepts (BCBJ) [2] offer a very high efficiency potential of around 24%. Stangl et al. proposed a relatively simple and therefore attractive cell concept comprising a two level metallization isolated by an insulation l...
